Banyan VINES overview

Banyan VINES (Virtual Integrated Network Service) was a network operating system (NOS) developed by Banyan Systems in the 1980s. It was designed to provide a highly scalable and efficient platform for networking, primarily used in large corporate and government environments. VINES was known for its robust directory services, predating what would later become LDAP and other directory systems. The core of VINES was based on the Xerox Network Systems (XNS) protocol suite.
