FORTRAN (FORmula TRANslation) is one of the earliest high-level programming languages, developed in 1957 by IBM, designed specifically for numeric computation and scientific computing. Created to simplify the process of programming, FORTRAN aimed to allow engineers and scientists to write software using algebraic expressions.
