Memcached is an open-source, high-performance, distributed memory caching system. Its primary function is to speed up dynamic web applications by alleviating database load. Memcached does this by storing data objects in memory (RAM) for quick retrieval, reducing the need to frequently access a slower disk-based database. Think of Memcached as a magic box where you can stash your data temporarily, and when you need it, you can grab it faster than a blink of an eye.
Software Requirements:- Windows: Requires Cygwin/WSL for running Memcached, and a C compiler for building from source. macOS: Xcode Command Line Tools for compiling, or Homebrew for easy installation. Linux: GCC and Libevent (for asynchronous I/O). Hardware Requirements:- Windows/macOS/Linux: Any modern multi-core CPU, 512MB-1GB memory minimum (scaling with cache size), minimal storage for logs and configs.
